From June 2 to 5, 2025, Vienna hosted the ICARO-4 congress, sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Highlights included a presentation by Solar – Latin American Radiotherapy Societies, a federation that brings together specialist societies in the region and specialist groups from countries without a formal organization. The launch was led by Lina Loaiza, president of the Colombian Association of Radio-Oncology (Acro), and Arthur Accioly Rosa, former president of the Brazilian Society of Radiotherapy. The initiative reinforced the importance of medical leadership and cooperation between countries to expand the development of radiotherapy in Latin America and ensure greater access to quality cancer treatments for the population.

During the meeting, a poster was also displayed with a letter signed by the presidents of Latin American societies, addressed to authorities, opinion leaders, and other industry stakeholders. The document advocates the need to strengthen regional organization and mobilize joint efforts to promote the specialty. With approximately 1,700 specialists already integrated through national societies, Solar marks its first international outreach initiative, consolidating itself as a unified voice for radiotherapy in the region and assuming an increasingly important role in education, training, and advocacy for the field.
